The fourth quarter is the traditional off-season of small and medium-sized TFT LCD panel market. The off-season effect will be quite obvious under the situation that the economic environment in Europe and America has not improved and the demand in mainland China has temporarily subsided. According to DIGITIMES research, in the fourth quarter of 2012, the shipment of small and medium-sized TFT LCDs from Taiwan's Taiwan factories is estimated to be 340 million, a decline of 9.9% compared with the previous quarter. The annual growth rate will also decline by 7.8% compared with the fourth quarter of 2011, only second to the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009, which were deeply affected by the financial tsunami.

DIGITIMES research said that under the off-season effect, in the fourth quarter of 2012, Taiwan's small and medium-sized panel only had 7-inch panel, which would grow by 26.3% compared with the previous quarter, boosted by orders from large international manufacturers; as for mobile phone applications, the decline rate will be 8.9% compared with the previous quarter due to the urgent demand for new smart phone models and the demand for iPhone 4S panel.

In the fourth quarter of 2012, due to the urgent demand for mobile phone panels from large international manufacturers, mobile phone applications will account for 78.9% of Taiwan's small and medium-sized TFT LCD shipments, an increase of 0.9% over the previous quarter. Tablet PC application benefited from the hot demand of 7-inch orders from large international manufacturers, accounting for 2.3% of the total small and medium-sized panel shipments of Taiwan's total plants, an increase of 0.7% compared with the previous quarter, and surpassing the vehicle display, becoming the third largest small and medium-sized panel application of Taiwan's factories, only next to mobile phones and digital cameras.
